If not, you might ask yourself how you spent your weekend. As somebody who was chronically over-worked for years, I found one of the most difficult things was to have guilt-free play where I wasn’t thinking about work.
In-fact, a study of showed that managing your free time is associated with higher quality of life. What was most fascinating was that increasing people’s free time had no effect on their happiness, but scheduling that time in advance made all the difference.
This past weekend I scheduled time to go hike with a friend and it was hot, exhausting made my legs sore, but it gave me a nice break from my usual routine.
If you find yourself only using your calendar for work events, I’d challenge you to schedule in your next free-time and vacation even if a few months from now, as you’ll likely thank yourself for it.
