Happy Week 31!
Finally finished what I’d consider to be the most comprehensive guide on the effects of Music on Productivity on my site.
Otherwise, I’ve been trying to form a habit of brushing my cat’s teeth daily. If you don’t start early on, teeth decay occurs with almost every breed across dogs and cats. Unfortunately, most pet owners never adopt the habit and our pets can suffer the same effects we do if their teeth aren’t brushed daily.
While I once thought maybe a few times a week could work, I wasn’t able to formt he habit, however by making a one-week commitment to myself to do it once a day as part of my morning routine, (habit stacking) I’ve been able to adapt it (thus far…)
Here’s a quote from Nudge (a great book on living better) as to why a once-a-day habit is easier to adapt than something you might do every other day:
Once a day is much better than once every other day, because the Automatic System can be educated to think: “My pill(s) every morning, when I wake up.” Taking the pill becomes a habit, and habits are controlled by the Automatic System. By contrast, remembering to take your medicine every other day is beyond most of us. (Similarly, meetings that occur every week are easier to remember than those that occur every other week.) - Nudge by Richard H. Thaler, Cass R. Sunstein
Have you had difficulty forming a new habit recently? Maybe try a pre-commitment device like 21habit or Stickk to start.
